Using Names

In the name of Allah most Gracious, most Merciful Khutbah Hajjah I would like to discuss two issues today that have come up more than once after my Jummah khutbaat. 1. The issue of using names of criminals and stating their crimes.Brothers we are all humans and we make mistakes and sin deliberately. None of us here is an Angel or a Prophet to be masoom of any wrong doing. We also know that when we see a fault in each other we correct them and infact hide their faults. However there is an exception to this rule. This has to do with sinning openly. So when someone is driving while intoxicated,...

The politics of the Prophet saw

In the name of Allah most Gracious most Merciful Khutbah Hajjah Dear brothers today’s topic is of a political nature. I am briefly going to talk about how politics is part and parcel of the Deen of Islam. Let us start about an action of the Prophet saw… a Sunnah where he made everyone around him unhappy. It was a political action that upset everyone. Even the best of the Sahabah Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali ra. This event is the treaty of Hudaybiyah. The Background: So the Prophet saw sent spies all over Arabia. Some of his spies reported to him that the Quresh in Mecca and the...

Mahmood Qutuz and the Qatari Royal Family

A mix of speeches from two different Jummah. First Speech: I talked about Sultan Mahmood Qutuz, the Lion of Ayn Jaloot and how he dealt the Mongols a crushing defeat along with Sultan Beybar and the noble Ulema who fought with them against the Mongols who had been unstoppable till that time.  Second Speech: While today the Ummah is under attack, be it insults against our Deen or against our Rasool or against our people such as what they have done in Iraq and Afghanistan, we need leaders like Mahmood Qutuz who can reorganize Muslims after their center in Baghdad was destroyed. Leaders who...

Our Prophet Our Honour

Our Prophet Our Honour

First Speech: In 2005, a newspaper in Denmark published insulting cartoons against our beloved Prophet Muhammad saw. We saw a huge response against those insults. Muslims protested, mostly peacefully across the world against those cartoons. If we leave these people to do such things, then we have no honour and dignity left, for as Muslims our honour is our Prophet saw. This is above our own relatives, children, families etc. If you were walking on the street with your family, and a person comes along and tries to insult you and your family, your wife or your child in a vicious manner, how...

Bukhari / Malik Bin Dinar

This is a mix of two speeches from two different Jummah days First Speech: How can we Muslims build and increase our Taqwa or awareness that Allah sees everything. Well firstly we need to understand that Allah gave us this life as a test and we are going to be judged for our actions in this dunya. In previous times when Islam lived in the hearts and souls of Muslims, we produced great scholars who are unmatched in their research and discourse. I ll tell you a story about one of these famous scholars. So the teacher gave all his students some sweets and told them to go and eat it where no one...

Sighting the new moon for Ramadhan and Eid ul Fitr

Sighting the new moon for Ramadhan and Eid ul Fitr

So let me guess. The people running Clonskeagh Mosque in Dublin visit some site run by an Indian who claims to present a graphical visualization of when the new moon can be sighted on Earth. Based on this dubious website they declare the start of new months and announce Ramadhan and Eid etc. I personally spoke to Ali Selim about this and advised him not to go down the route of announcing new months with calculations. This fell on deaf ears and we had a terrible situation here in Ireland in 2008 when half the Muslims celebrated Eid and the rest of the half were still fasting because according...
