Letter on Obama’s visit to Ireland

Our Letter to Metro Eireann on Obama’s visit to the Republic of Ireland. Obama passed by our office in his bullet proof car outside Phoenix Park and gave his stupid smile to everyone. We all cheered. We also sent a letter to the newspaper about Mr Obama. We the Muslim community of Ireland were shocked to see our newspaper Metro Eireann dedicating a full edition to US President Barack Obama. Under Obama the US continues . Violating Pakistan’s sovereignty and killing innocent people in ongoing drone attacks . Waging wars in Afghanistan as well as Iraq . Supporting tyrants while...

Torture and Osama Bin Laden

Wikileaks recently released around 779 secret documents showing how America has trampled upon habeas corpus and the rule of law. Included are details of an 89-year-old Afghan villager suffering from senile dementia and a 14-year-old boy who was an innocent kidnap victim, both of whom were sent to Guantanamo Bay. The old man was questioned about “suspicious phone numbers” found in his compound, while the boy was jailed because of “his possible knowledge of Taliban… local leaders”. One British national, Jamal al Harith, who was jailed by the Taliban, was subsequently shipped off to Cuba;...

Not our Queen

Mrs Windsor’s visit to the Republic of Ireland. Published on May 15, 2011 Here I was thinking about my next column and in walked a handsome Irishman in a Garda uniform in our offices just outside Phoenix Park. I was obviously curious as to what was going on. The man was looking through windows and checking out the different floors. My friend Jerry at the reception later told me that the Gardai are checking different buildings around the route of the Queen of England’s visit to Ireland next month. The fear is that the IRA could take people hostages and use a sniper for an assassination....

Murder of Salman Taseer

Published on April 15, 2011 Salman Taseer was one of the leading members of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). He was shot dead by one of his own guards on 4 January 2011 after he described the blasphemy law of Pakistan as a “black law” and had shown support to a woman condemned to death for blaspheming against the Prophet Muhammad. The killing has been condemned by many politicians, and the media portrayed Taseer as a martyr for liberalism. However the media is failing to understand the issue from a broader and correct perspective. The efforts of the secular PPP government to repeal the...

A Game of Divide and Rule

A Game of Divide and Rule

We’ve all heard the news about the referendum on secession in South Sudan. We hoped that the information age would bring people together, yet today we see Sudan being divided. The largest country in Africa, boasting the vast Nile river water basin, oil and mineral reserves, agriculture and wild game herds, is being ripped apart before our very eyes. We have seen what division does to people. We have seen it in India, Palestine, Cyprus and even our own dear Ireland. Division gives us nothing but conflict and instability down the road. US President Obama called this secession and referendum a...

The Tragedy of Tunisia

Readers must be aware of the events taking place in Tunisia. As I write, the disgraced President Ben Ali has already fled the country in the face of massive protests by the people of Tunisia who took to the streets against the brutal and oppressive regime. Like all oppressive regimes in Muslim world, the Tunisian government has a track record of brutality that has destroyed the country’s people. One of the methods of oppression is by creating unemployment. This did not deter Muhammad, who used his own initiative and set up a fruit and vegetable stall in the city of Sidi Bouzid. On 17...
